The Story So Far
This year, I’ve decided to focus on the little things and stop simply passing them by with a quick thought of, “Awe that’s a cute flower.” Instead, I want to stop, crouch down, and really admire it. There are so many small joys in the world that can brighten your day, but it's up to you to let them. Take those moments as opportunities to slow down—why not highlight and appreciate the beautiful, enjoyable things in our lives?
As a woman in my 20s and having grown up with a food-loving mom, I've noticed some differences in the way my now adulting peers eat and cook and what I’m used to. It seems like convenience has become the priority. People are more disconnected from their food—the very thing that nourishes and powers our bodies. Shouldn’t we pay more attention to something that holds so much purpose and offers such a powerful opportunity for connection with others? Why do we choose packaged pre-cut fruit over getting to hold this thing once in the earth and getting to slice it up?
You control your life, and you can take back the energy around your meals. While I don’t necessarily believe in “energy” in the way some do, I will say that there’s a different feeling between opening a pre-made meal and heating it up versus putting the effort into cooking something from scratch—a meal with memories and purpose behind it. Life is yours to decide. Don’t feel the need to be stimulating your brain 24/7—sometimes, it’s the simple pleasures that truly matter. Let's learn to take back the small joys together
